Easy Claims Settlement

Ten Ways Toward Easy Claims Settlement
:
1.
Obtain an exception report
- where
pilferage or damage is apparent. Ask for it before taking
delivery.
2. Don't give a clean
receipt - for
goods where they or the packing are damaged in any way.
3.
Examine goods for hidden damage
- within
three working days of receipt.
4.
Lodge pro forma claims
-
within the specified time with vessel's
agents/carriers and all others believed to be responsible
for the damage.
5.
Notify the insurers, carriers,
other bailees and port authorities -
at
first sight of damage. Give all parties the chance to witness
spoilt cargo. Lodge valued claims with a clearly stated cash
value against those believed responsible for damage - do it
as soon as claims assessment is complete.
6.
Leave goods in their packaging
- until
a survey has been made. If it is absolutely necessary to unpack,
keep damaged packaging for the surveyor's inspection.
7.
Check container for leaks
-
and have any damage independently
witnessed before releasing the container.
8.
Do everything necessary to reduce
the loss
- and always act as if the cargo
is uninsured.
9.
Check container seal
- to ensure
it remains intact and that the seal number agrees with shipping
documents. If the original seal is found to be broken, apply
immediately for joint survey with the carriers and/or port
authority before removing the container from the port area.
10. Make
sure that full documentation is submitted to your nearest
insurers as soon as possible.
