Code of Federal Regulations
Chapter 21 -- Part 123 (21 CFR 123)
FISH AND FISHERY PRODUCTS
"Mandatory Seafood HACCP Regulations"
The Seafood HACCP Regulations:
HACCP Regulations for the seafood processing industry were
first proposed by FDA on January 28, 1994. Over 250 different
comments from over 200 different commentators were received
in regard to the proposal. After heavy scrutiny of all comments
and suggestions, FDA slightly amended the proposed rule in
some areas and published the "Final Rule" on December 18,
1995. The new regulations are now included in Chapter 21 of
the Code of Federal Regulations under new section 123.
While the entire document which appeared
in the Federal Register in December of 1995 is over 600 pages
long, the actual regulations consist of only about 10 pages.
The remainder is preambles and explanations of each point
of the rule.
The rules apply to all processors of fish
and fishery products in the U.S. and overseas, and include
a special provision related to importers.
