From 1994 to mid-2000 , Thai Black Tiger
shell-on 21/25 registered a historical low of US$5.15 in 1994
and a historical high of US$8.30 in 1998. Its price came down
during the first half of 1999, to an average of USD 6.28/lb
but rose again later that year. Gulf of Mexico White shell-on
31/35, likewise a popular US import, showed a similar pattern
of fluctuations with a historical low of US$4.45 in 1998,
a historical high of US$6.85 in 1997 and an increase in average
price from US$5.12 in mid-1999 to US$6.26 in mid-2000. Ecuador
White 21/25, on the other hand, showed a historical low of
US$6.10 in 1994, a historical high of US$8.40 in 1995 and
an average price decrease from US$7.89 in mid-1999 to US$7.71
in June, 2000.
