Trends
It's a seller's market, according to industry
sources, because demand exceeds supply. A report, published
in February, 2000 by the Bangkok Bank PLC Research Department
pointed out that world shrimp demand in 1999 reached 2.1 million
metric tons against supply of only 800,000 tons. The same
report predicted that Thailand will remain the world's top
producer and exporter. Reliable sources within the Thai Frozen
Foods Association also see an upward trend for global demand
of Thai frozen shrimp since the country's shrimp processors
pack quality products that meet the standards of world markets.
