Chicken's
nature
IBDV Disease.
IBDV is known as an immunosuppressive disease in young chickens.
The disease is highly contagious and spreads quickly through
the flocks, which could entail high mortality and economic
losses on poultry raisers. It is distributed through contaminated
feed and water and is commonly diagnosed in birds of 3-6 weeks
old. Chickens with the disease exhibit anorexia, ruffed feathers,
soiled vent feathers, vent picking and death. The course usually
takes 5-7 days. Gross lesions can be seen for the most part
on the bursa may even shrink in size. Birds surviving the
disease are permanently immuno-suppressed and thus, more susceptible
to other diseases. Once infected with IBDV, chicks no longer
respond to vaccination that is an essential part of poultry
management system.
Types
of chicken
There are three types of chicken in Thailand. The first is
an important and economic type: broilers. It has accounted
for Thailand's main export for years. The second one is layers
which are quite relatively significant toward the national
consumption and the last one is native chickens which are
raised for several purpose. Some native chicken are raised
for pleasure because raisers do not have to give lots of time
taking care of them since they can find their own feed in
nature. Also, some people raise native chickens for sale because
of the particular taste and stickiness of native chicken meat
which are likeable among some consumer groups.
