Ginger import statistic
Although China is one of the main ginger producers in the
world, it is also a major importer, as a result of high domestic
consumption. In 2000, 236,040 tons of ginger were imported
into China, valued at 3.5 million baht. In the same year,
Thailand imported 18,767 tons, worth 391,903 baht. Total global
ginger imports in 2000 were 254,845 tons, valued at 3.9 million
baht. In 2001, the world import volume of ginger increased
slightly to 472,742 tons and the value increased to 7.3 million
baht. China remained the biggest importer in 2001, buying
about 472,470 tons, valued at 7.2 million baht. From January
to July 2002, total world ginger imports were 13,908 tons,
worth 123,684 baht. However, there have been no reports Chinas
imports yet.
