Thailand's
Herbs & Spices Trade
Thailand's major export markets for herb & spice are in
Europe, North America, and Asia. In 1999, over 60% of Thailand's
total exports value went to Pakistan, Japan, and United Kingdom.
Pakistan, however, has demonstrated a downward trend toward
herb & spice imports. To date, Pakistan's imports plunge
to only 4% of Thailand's total exports value, a tremendous
drop from 1998 and 1999 figures.

Japan, on the other hand, demonstrates
a steep upward trend of herb & spice imports from Thailand.
From 1998, Japan has increased the total imports value by approximately
92%. Up until July 2000, Japan has surpassed Pakistan, as well
as other major export markets, as Thailand's number one importer
of herb & spice. This upward trend should continue into
the year 2001.
United Kingdom remains Thailand's third largest export market
for herb & spice. Despite a slight drop in export volume,
the value continues to increase.
Thailand's export value of herb & spice in 2000 should surpass
that of 1999's, although the quantity may not reach the same
level. With the increasing popularity of Thai food and herbal
drinks, the export figures should continue to grow. |
