Production of spice in Thailand
According
to the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives' report on
cultivation areas and production of spices such as garlic, ginger,
hot pepper, chili pepper, shallot, clove and pepper in Thailand
between 1998 and 2001 decreased. The production area of hot
pepper has been decreasing gradually. In 2000/01, the production
area of hot pepper across Thailand was 434,306 rai(173,722 acre),
a decrease from 555,375 and 516,374 rai(222,150, 206549.6 acre)
in 1998/99 and 1999/2000, respectively. In line with this, the
total production of hot pepper decreased from 472,807 tons in
1998/99 to 444,558 tons in 1999/2000 and 389,396 tons in 2000/01.
