Land
Area/Growing Season
The global trend towards
land use for rice production has increased steadily from the
years 1990 to 2000. Asia has devoted the most land area to
rice cultivation.
In 1997, the United States demonstrated the
highest land productivity, followed very closely by China.
Thailand trailed behind with only 2.36 metric ton per hectare.
In 1999/00, Thailand dramatically increased
the land productivity to 6.32 metric ton per hectare.
The central region is Thailand's largest rice
growing area.
Rice
Environment
Some constraints that lower Thailand's yield include
labor shortage, unpredictable weather & climate conditions,
and pests & diseases.
To increase the yield, rice hybrid is developed,
along with the use of fertilizer and a large-scale irrigation
system.
Rice
Farming
Thailand applies three rice cultivating methods:
upland, lowland, and deep-water rice cultivation.
