USDA buys 3 million lbs beef for government food programs

US (August 22, 2002) - The U.S. Agriculture Department on Wednesday purchased 3.37 million pounds of frozen ground beef products, valued at $4.19 million, for federal food and nutrition programs.

With the latest purchase, the USDA has bought 38.53 million pounds of frozen beef products for $49.53 million since June 20.

The department also purchased 880,440 pounds of frozen boneless pork picnics, valued at $525,000, for government food programs.

With the latest purchase, the USDA has bought 6.76 million pounds of frozen pork products for $4.72 million since June 25.
