The Brand:
Hom Mali is the registered trademark for Thailand's fragrant rice, formerly known as Jasmine rice. Due to an increasing global demand for Hom Mali, the Thai government has decided to promote its production for export. The Thai government decided to register Hom Mali as a trademark to thwart the threat of copies, the most recent case involving a company in the United States, and to distinguish it from the term Thai Jasmine rice.

Characteristics:
Hom Mali falls under the long grain category, with an average kernel of at least 7.0 mm. The average width ratio, against the average length, must be at least 1:3. Whether it is white or cargo rice, Hom Mali must contain between 12.0 and 19.0 per cent amylose and at most 14 per cent moisture.
